Our Home Renovation

Like many of you, we too worked with budget constraints when updating our home. While I might put together a glamorous kitchen with a hood, paneled refrigerator, two dishwashers, and all the bells and whistles for a client; our home was more mid budget. For all of our home projects, my husband did the work and did a fantastic job. He replaced mantles, repainted the kitchen, rebuilt our mud room, and installed flooring. Our home of 17 years went through many updates from builder basic to something unique that we loved. Having that home with all the updates would be nice, but isn't always practical. In my life and design, I try to be practical and functional; keeping a budget in mind and make it as beautiful as I can. We recently moved from this home, and are renting a home, while we figure out our next chapter!

An Updated Kitchen (for us)

Changing the entire footprint of the kitchen and appliances wasn't in the plan for us when it came time to update our kitchen. What we could do and afford at the time was to paint our cabinets, paint our walls, replace the backsplash and our counters. So, that's what we did. Check out the before section for some additional pictures. We chose a herringbone mini tile, and a quartz marbled counter for brightness and neutrality. It gave a very classic look that would work for years to come.

Goodbye Builder Grade Fireplace

Our original fireplace that came with the house had builder grade tan 12 x 12 tiles and a standard type mantel. We never liked it. So, we ripped it out and replaced it with a custom built fireplace and updated tile surround. The transition made us so happy.

A Functional Mudroom

This area in our home was right off of the kitchen and garage. It was a never ending catchall for all that came into the house and our shoes. This area went through three different updates. Our final update was the most functional and beautiful. A place to sit, a place for shoes, and a place for extra items to hang.
